When I got an ash blonde balayage (not a great job) couple of months ago, the hairstylist recommended some products. One of them was a product from Fanola.

Product Review: Fanola No Yellow Shampoo

Where to purchase: beauty salon and online at fanola.net
Price: around $15-30 depending where you purchase of 1000 mL/ 33.8 fl oz

Made in Italy

Description from the website: With time comes change, and hair is usually the first place we notice it. But don't stress any more if the grey streaks are setting in. Fanola has you covered with their line of No Yellow Shampoo. It's made with a violet pigment that turns down the grey or lightened hairs to be less noticeable. There's nothing wrong with going grey, but this No Yellow Shampoo helps you keep your color consistent and vibrant. It's an easy way to help time pass with a little more grace.

* Ideal, for grey, super lightened, or decolored hair
* Violet pigment tones down unwanted yellow hues on grey, light blonde, or streaked hair
Thoughts: When the hairstylist told me about Fanola No Yellow Shampoo, I was intrigued. I couldn't fully trust her since the hair did not turn out the way I wanted. That's another story if you want to hear about it, I can write a post about it. If not, I will not write about my experience with the salon as well as Yelp. Right after learning about Fanola No Yellow Shampoo, I watched a lot of YouTube videos. They all made it sound like a miracle product.
Here's a closer look at the opening.
Here's a swatch of the shampoo on a cotton pad.
Here's my hair right after visiting the salon to get the ash blonde balayage. I have Huda Beauty Obsession Eyeshadow Palette in Smokey on the eyes and Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Girlfriend on the lips.
Here's how the end looks.
Here's my hair about two months into having the hair color. I have JOAH Birthday Suit Eyeshadow Palette in Unveiled on the eyes and JOAH I'm Your Jelly Bae! Matte Gel Lipstick in Honey on the lips.
Here's how the end looks.

Now for my overall opinion... First of all, there's a slight scent while applying but you don't really concentrate on that. I will get into that later. I just sniffed the product and it smells like flower. Even though it smells like flower, it's not on the sweet side. It has a slight ting of chemical. Secondly, I like the packaging. It's simple and white. With that said, it's well-made and sturdy. It's made out of thick plastic. It comes in two sizes. I ended up getting the biggest size. I bought the big size thinking I'll keep this hair color for a long time. I don't know about that anymore but that's a different story. The top is also sturdy. It's one of those top you flip to open and close. You don't turn anything. It's a positive because you definitely don't want the product to squeeze out. It'll be a complete mess. With that said, you can hear a clicking noise and feel a tight seal when you open and close. I cannot see it open or break unless you are rough with the packaging. For this reason, it's travel-friendly. Even though it's travel-friendly, I don't know if I want to carry this huge container with me. If I bought the smaller size, I might. Third, the consistency is creamy and on the medium side. It's easy to use. I soak my hair wet and squeeze the excess water. Apply the shampoo on my hair concentrating on the areas that is colored and then I tie my hair up in a bun. Then wait five minutes to rinse the shampoo off. Let me tell you this part is a complete mess. The shampoo is purple and the purple will get everywhere. I mean everywhere! While I wait five minutes, that's when I wash the shampoo that has squirted all over the shower and soap wash my hand. Yes, your hand will turn purple as well. They recommend using a glove but I found it uncomfortable. For this reason, I use my bare hand. It is up to the individual how you use your hand. Lastly, the reason why I bought this shampoo other than my hair dresser telling me about this product; I saw the amazing reviews on YouTube. YouTubers apply just like how I used the product. Once the hair dries, it turned more on the gray/silver side instantly. It sounded too good to be real but all these videos, and I mean gazillion videos, was instant transformation. A lot of the YouTubers got the product from Salon Guy who also sells on Amazon. I bought it from the same seller and even the reviews were good. I don't know what I am doing wrong. My hair did not instantly transform like all those videos and reviews. My hair changed color as time went on which is the case with all dyes. Going back to my hair dresser, she told me not to buy it from Amazon. Her friend bought the same product and bought one from the salon. The friend saw the difference. They believe they diluted the formula or it's fake. The friend even noticed they smell differently. I cannot say much if this is fake but I definitely know it's not a miracle product. To be honest, I regret purchasing this product big time. Since I bought it, I am going to try my best to finish.

Pros:
* Slight scent while applying.
* Simple, white packaging.
* Well-made and sturdy packaging.
* Sturdy top; can hear a clicking noise and feel a tight seal when open and close.
* Travel-friendly.
* Medium, creamy consistency.
* Easy to use.
* Recommend to use a glove.

Cons:
* Hard to find in stores.
* Don't know if I want to take traveling with.
* Messy!
* Shower and hand will turn purple.
* No instant transformation.
* Hair did not turn gray/silver like proclaim.

Would repurchase: No!
