I just search through my blog to see when I received this product from Cinema Secrets. My blog comes in handy once in awhile and this is one of those times. It was at The Makeup Show LA 2013 Part 1. I also received one from The Makeup Show LA 2012 Part 1.
Product Review: Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner
Where to purchase: online at cinemasecrets.com
Price: $8 for 2 fl oz
Made in USA
Description from the package: Will clean, sanitize, deodorize and condition all makeup brushes. Spray top bottle designed for quick cleaning on the go and larger brushes when drying time needs to be faster.
Thoughts: I remember the night I received this product. Couple of females were talking about this product and I heard them say it's smells really bad. That conversation turned me off. Since I ran out of my favorite brush cleaner, Parian Spirit Brush Cleaner, I needed a temporarily brush cleaner until I repurchase my favorite (I did at PHAMExp two weeks ago).
Here's a closer look at the product. From what I can tell from the website, the design is different.
Here's a closer look at the spray.
Now for my overall opinion... First of all, there's a strong scent while using. I just sniffed the product and it's smells like strong, musky vanilla scent. At certain angles, it smells chemically. It's not my type of scent but it wasn't as bad as what the girls mentioned. Secondly, the packaging is nice. It comes in a spray like other brush cleaners. I've had brush cleaners where the spray didn't work. I didn't have to worry about that with this product. It worked well. I also like that it comes in a see through bottle and in all honesty, the color of the brush cleaner is pretty. Blue is my favorite color and I'm always drawn to that color. This is just personal preference but I enjoy seeing the product go down especially towards the end. It makes me feel accomplish. It's all mental. Also, I'm able to pump the last remaining product whereas it's hard to when it comes in a bottle that's hard to see. With that said, it's sturdy and well-made. It's easy to pump and it sprays all over the brush. I hate sprays that only targets one area and that's the only area getting the product. I cannot see it open or break unless you are rough with the packaging. For that reason, it's travel-friendly. It's also small enough to carry and great for makeup artists who needs to clean brushes in-between doing makeup on clients. Third, it's easy to use. You just spray the area of the brush that you want to clean. Then I swirl that area on a towel paper back and forth. I could see the dirty product come off on the towel paper. If I need to repeat, I do so until the brush is clean. Then I shake the brush to remove the remaining leftover from the brush cleaner and lay until it's dry. It doesn't take that long to dry. My brushes are clean within minutes. To be safe, I lay it overnight. It is up to the individual. Since it dries quickly, it's great for makeup artists. I use it in-between thorough brush cleaning. It's not great to thoroughly wash your brushes in daily basis. I try to wash my brushes once a month. Since I don't want my brushes to collect products and reapply the same brushes, I wash with these type of products. It's not that harsh and makes my brushes last longer. Lastly, I finished the spray. It's works just as well as other brush cleaners. To be honest, I cannot tell the difference. They all clean my brushes in-between thorough washes. It's quick and easy. The only reason I would repurchase my favorite is for the smell. If you like musky smell, this might be better for you. I prefer the lemony scent.
