I noticed in Korean variety shows they add Ketchup on certain foods. I don't know when this trend started or how it came upon, but it intrigued my curiosity... lol~ For that reason, I decided to try it on chicken on potatoes, carrots, and onions (dak do-ri-tang) version 2. Yup, version 2! I have version 1 posted. You should try both version to see which one you like!... hehe~ ;)
If you need some guidance with the ingredients, you can check my Korean Cooking 101. ;)
Ingredients:
chicken
garlic
ginger
potatoes
carrots
onion
soy sauce
water
garlic salt
sugar
2 spoonful of red pepper powder
Step 1:
You don't have to do this part, but I did it because it's more healthier to eat. If it's frozen, I defrost it with water but you can use a microwave... hehe~ Once it's defrosted, I peel the skin off as much as I can. Then I boil it in water with ginger and garlic. I wait until the fat flow to the top. It takes about 10-15 minutes. I throw away the water and clean the chicken with water.
Step2:
You can use the same pot but make sure to clean it or use a new pot... hehe~ I put the chicken, chopped some potatoes, carrots, and onion.
I made the sauce while the chicken was boiling in Step 1. I added soy sauce, water, garlic salt, and sugar. The soy sauce and water ratio is about half and half. You add water to dilute the soy sauce. You don't want your chicken to be dark and salty in taste. Then you add sugar to sweeten the chicken. I usually taste the soy sauce and it seems good in my taste bud I know it's good enough... hehe~ :X Then at the end I add two spoonful of red pepper powder.
I dump the sauce into the pot... lol~ Then the stove onto high.
This picture doesn't represent my next step, but it's close enough... lol~ I learned through trial and error. As soon as you turn on the stove, add two spoonful of Ketchup. Don't wait towards the middle of cooking or the end. It helps in the beginning because it actually takes time for the Ketchup to be mixed into the chicken. If you do it in the middle or the end, you can taste the Ketchup which isn't the goal... lol~ :X You will cook about 30 minutes, and make sure to go back and mix it with a spoon every 5 minutes.
Here's the end product, but this isn't a good representation either... lol~ It will look for red if you mix the Ketchup in the beginning. ;)
Speaking of food, I thought I would upload a cake my brother bought... hehe~
If you are ever in this area, you need to try their cakes. It's the bomb!!!
King's Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant
2808 Sepulveda Blvd.
Torrance, CA 90506
Their restaurant isn't bad either... hehe~ ;)
Growing up, I was never into Hello Kitty. I don't know what happened because I love Hello Kitty now!... lol~ :/ My favorite and even now is Pochacco, but I'm so digging Hello Kitty nowadays. I bought two recently. :X
I bought this sticker from Target. It's in their $1 section.
I got this from Burlington Coat Factory. It's so adorable!... wheee~ :)

that cake looks so DELISH. i want to grab it from the picture and gobble it up. i am really hoping we will have some kind of cake here at home for turkey day.
oooh. those hello kitty slippers look like the pajama set i was about to get at jc penney. they are exactly the same design. hmm... maybe they do have these slippers too at penney's. i think i'll buy those PJs next week. i'm thinking of getting a set for my sister too. the stickers are cute as well.
once again, thank you and i'll email you now. haha... :D
Hi Alyssa i just sent you an email ;) *palms on face*
The HK furry boots are super cute! ahhh your cooking looks yum, as per usual :)
Congrats to the winner! Thanks for hosting.
I think you made version 1 of this for me and it was awesome! Master cook.
I wasn't into HK as a kid either and also love it now. Can't wait for the Hk Sephora thing.
We only used to get the Hawaiian Paradise cake so I haven't tried the others? What are your recommendations? :D
haha... once i get the pjs at penney's, i will definitely post them on my blog for you to see. :D
the lip and cheek convertible thingy on the twin palette is actually good. the day i used mine, i was in a hurry. i ended up using that convertible color for both and it worked well. i was pleasantly surprised about it not being sticky or gross. lol.
hmm... when i happen to be in san marcos, i'll check out the nordstrom rack there to see the rest of the country palettes...well, if they carry them.
that's cool that tobey goes out for daily walks. he must love his walks and he reminds you about them. it's fun giving dogs a walk. i sometimes tag along to those. maybe one of these days when ben gets a doggy, we can walk him or her. hehehe...
awww... i guess there won't be any broken stuffed toy pics then since your dad threw it away. hehehe...
yup, it always helps to have another base over UDPP. plus, the colors turn out brighter and nicer that way. if i weren't so lazy, i'd do it every time i put e/s on. i do it once in a while. shadows last longer that way too. :D
Congrats to the winner!
Thanks for the recipe, it looks really yummy :D.
My love for Hello Kitty is growing too, the boots look uber cute ;D
Yum, that sounds good! The cake has guava, passionfruit, and lime. XD
hi :) yes i'm chinese, you're correct lol Canmake's cream blushes are the first cream blushes i own *o* i guess there is a fixation associated with it XD
do you make kimchi :D?
RE: the elf order, I will ask a canadian blogger to order for me and my friend XD since she has stuff to ship to us anyway so she would be sending us a HUGE BOX at the end...hahaha thankyou so much for your help though! <3 sorry to have sent you so many emails, sometimes when i ordered, and i had 'buyers remorse' and would change my mind and decided i don't want that item anymore XD
The food looks sooo yummy! I gotta eat more Korean food. And bake a cake! The Hello Kitty stuff is super kawaii (super cute)!
omg those hello kitty slippers are SOOO CUTE! I want them too! haha. and damn only 9 away from winning the prize! ahh well next time. have a great thanksgiving!
YUMMMM i love food and cakes :)! and such super cute hello kitty slippers!!
PS - carrying a water bottle does get heavy but it's important to stay hydrated throughout the day! :)
I used to prefer My Melody and Cinammoroll but for some reason, Hello Kitty edged her way and made it a three-way-tie! Probably because it's much easier to obtain HK merchandise compared to the other two.
I absolutely agree with Kali, you are indeed a master cook =D How was your Thanksgiving? And don't bother asking about mine, because we don't celebrate it over here haha
ooh it looks yummy!
definately going to try this :)
