Born Pretty Store contacted me and gave me an opportunity to review any nail polish. For the longest time I've been curious to try mood changing nail polishes. I took this opportunity to try their New Magic Purple/Sky Blue Color Changing Mood Nail Polish Nail Art.
I took this picture from their website. Here's how it looks when it's cold.
Product Review: New Magic Purple/Sky Blue Color Changing Mood Nail Polish Nail Art #7
Where to purchase: online at bornprettystore.com
Price: $7.84 (for one, cheaper as you order more)
Description from the website: Brand new and high quality, easy to use, reflect the change of temperature, and change your mood with the magic effect.
Magic Effect:
1. These playful nail polishes change color based on the temperature!
2. It's purple below 33° C and becomes sky blue above 33° C.
Thoughts: When I received the product, my initial thought was that there were so many dimensions of color from the bottle.
I was shocked, but after awhile it made sense. It's the coolest at the top where air easily comes inside and out. Since it's the coolest, the color should be closest to purple. The middle has less air making it blue, and the bottom has hardly any air. For that reason the bottom is pastel blue. I didn't take a picture of the bottom, but trust me it is pastel blue. ;)
The brush is on the thick side. It's the same width as OPI nail polishes. The only difference is that OPI nail polishes are compacted. This brush is on the loose side. Even though it's loose, there aren't any spare hair sticking out.
When it comes to packaging, it's a simple bottle. There's nothing fancy about it which is great at times as long as they're convenient. One thing I did notice is that it doesn't smell like other nail polishes. There's no scent whats so ever!
Now for my overall opinion of this nail polish... I actually wore this two weeks straight to test this out. There's another reason why I wore it two weeks straight. The first week I wore a base and top coat. The second week I went without a base and top coat. There's a reason why and I will get into that later.
For the first week, I wore a base coat with two coats of nail polish. Then I topped it off with a top coat, Seche Vite. The reason I topped it off with top coat is that the nail polish is on the matte side. I like my nail polish shiny.
Here's how the nail polish looks after I finished polishing. The nail polish will always be light blue on me since I'm on the warm side. The only times it'll change to purple is when it gets wet or I'm in a cold climate.
If you notice carefully, the top coat on the bottom of the nails started chipping. This is after couple of others. I'm not too sure why, but it kept chipping as days went on.
For that reason, I decided to try without a top coat for the second week and base coat.
This is when the nails are soak with water. The top part is more on the pastel side, whereas, the bottom is purple. The reason the bottom is purple is that the top coat chipped away. That's when I noticed it works better without a top coat!
Here's how the nail polish looks with two coats of color. It's a more pastel blue compared to the one with the top coast.
Here's the effect of the nail polish changing color. The parts that are wet is purple and the part that are getting dried is turning blue.
It's a fun nail polish! You get to see the nail polish change with your own bare eyes. :)
Pros:
* Fun, mood changing polish.
* Thick brush.
* Do not need base and top coat.
* Matte polish; depending if you like or not.
* It's fun washing hands!
Cons:
* Do not use top coat; it chips off.
* Matte polish; depending if you like or not.
* Chips easily.
Would repurchase: No, one is good for me.
