Several weeks ago, I received two CoverGirl products to test and review since I'm a BzzAgent. I think it's about time I review these products... hehe~

I received Smoky ShadowBlast in #805 Silver Sky and ShineBlast Lipgloss in #840 Sparkler. They also sent a booklet with Drew Barrymore on the cover.
Inside the booklet, there's a picture of Drew Barrymore using the Smoky ShadowBlast. This is how the cream eyeshadows suppose to look on an individual. By the way, I think this is such a hot picture of Drew!!! Seeing how hot the makeup looks on her, I was excited to try this out... hehe~

I'll review the Smoky ShadowBlast first.

Product Review: CoverGirl Smoky ShadowBlast in #805 Silver Sky

Where can you purchase this: drugstores and online
Price: $7.99

Made in USA

Information on the back: Easily achieve colorful smoky eyes! Smoky ShadowBlast's expertly matched shades, uniquely shaped tips and smoky eye creams, give you an easy way to achieve smoky eye perfection. Finish off with either LashBlast Length or LashBlast volume mascara to complete your look.

Direction on the back: Makeup Artist Application Tips on how to easily create the smoky eye using Smoky ShadowBlast:
Step 1: Using the rounded tip, smoothly spread the lighter shade from your lash line to the brow bone (and just below the bottom lash line if you choose).
Step 2: Using the tapered tip, apply the darker shade on your lash line and in the crease of your upper lid.

Ingredients:

My thoughts: Initially, I was excited to try this out but also nervous. I was excited and hoping it'll look the same on me as it does on Drew. The reason why I was nervous is because it's a cream eyeshadow. Through my experience nothing cream stays on my lids... lol~ I remember the rave about NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils and how wonderful they will make as a base. I think I'm the only one who made NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils crease on me within an hour or two... hehe~ :X For that reason, I had fear this will crease on me madly... eek~ It's not a pretty sight! :P After trying this out twice from their direction, it didn't looked that great and it creased!!! :( It was a big fail... lol~

I decided to try my way and it was actually okay on me. I used one of the eyeshadow color as a base and applied eyeshadow on top of it. It eventually creased but it wasn't an hour or two thing. It took 8 hours before it started creasing. Not bad I say!... hehe~

Pros:
* It looks gorgeous on Drew!
* It comes with two eyeshadow colors.
* Tells you the steps of which sides to use.
* The purple color is gorgeous.
* Using the eyeshadow as a base, it doesn't crease easily.
* You don't need a brush with this. You can use your fingers.

Cons:
* It's from CoverGirl; I haven't had great experiences with them.
* It only comes in 8 variety of colors.
* The round colored is way too glittery and light.
* Using the eyeshadow alone, it creases madly.
* You need to use your fingers to blend.
* It fades if you use a brush.

Would I buy this again? Probably not.

I'll tell you a little more information of these before I show how it looks on me... hehe~
Here's how the eyeshadows look. It tells you the steps of each side which is nice.
Here's the color of step 1, silver color.
Here's the color of step 2, purple color.

Now for the swatch of the eyeshadows:
On the left side is the silver color and the right is the purple color.

Here's how the colors look on me when I apply it the way they want you to use it:
I hated it a lot!!! :X The step 1, silver color, is way too light for the step 2, purple color. You can barely see the silver color and it was mad glittery! It also creased within an hour.

Here's a look with the eyeshadow as a base:
I used the silver color as a base and applied a dark gray color on the lids and purple eyeshadow on the crease/eye socket. I think the combination of those colors are gorgeous and it took 8 hours before the eyeshadows started creasing.

Now for my review on the lipgloss.

Product Review: CoverGirl ShineBlast Lipgloss in #840 Sparkler

Where can you purchase this: drugstore and online
Price: $7.49

Made in USA

Information from the booklet: Breakthrough ShineSculpt applicator hugs your lips' contours for optimum, smooth application and 4x more noticeable shine.

My thoughts: I picked out the lightest, pink color. No matter what this color won't fail or at least I think so... hehe~ The first thing I did as soon as I opened the product is smell inside. I'm not too sure what kind of smell it is, but it wasn't appealing to my nose. Then I applied it on my lips. It's very sheer but then its expected since I picked out the lightest color... hehe~ Even though it's sheer, my lips looked nice because of the shine... hehe~ It's not sticky so this is a plus for those people who don't like sticky lipglosses. I actually don't mind sticky lipglosses since they seem to last longer than non-sticky glosses. For a non-sticky gloss, this actually lasted quite some time. It rubbed off when I ate something, but most glosses do that. ;) The only thing I wasn't pleased about this lipgloss is that it has glitters. I don't mind the glitters but it's weird when I rub my lips and I can feel it. :/

Pros:
* Not sticky.
* Last a long time.
* Shiny.
* Comes in 16 colors.

Cons:
* It's from CoverGirl; I haven't had good experience with this brand.
* It smells.
* It's sheer.
* You can feel the glitters on your lips.

Would I buy this again? No.
Rating: [Paw.jpg][Paw.jpg] 1/5 Tobey's Paws

Here's how the applicator looks like:
It's a sponge-like tip. It kind of reminds me of NYX lipglosses unless I"m mistaken... hehe~ :X

Here's a swatch of the lipgloss:
It's very sheer as you can tell and it has glitters.

Great review! I've only tried their mascara and love it. Too bad these two are not that good...

Yikes CoverGirl - better luck next time I guess. Yeah, I can't believe that CG actually believe the creme shadow is suppose to last on people's lids and not crease. I mean, Drew looks great w/ it but I'm sure make up artists had some special trick to keep it lasting through the photoshoot or they kept reapplying it. Although those commercials really draws you in (the flowy/smoky dress)- especially w/ Tyler Swift being the next rep... I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to resist.

I keep seeing commercials for the covergirl ShadowBlast and thought about buying a few. I'm glad you did this review now I don't have to go waste my money. I never have any luck with Covergirl products =(

I haven't had great experiences with CG either. =( Hmm...you could feel the glitter? That *is* weird. Sorry they both sucked but at least they were free....hehe. =)

P.S I went to H&M and only came away with a scarf. *pats back* Hahaha....!

yay! a covergirl review. so far, what i have from them is four beloved lashblasts and a lipstain. hehe... i think one of my friends is lemming for the shadowblast you just reviewed. your instructions on how to apply it is BY FAR better than their instructions. the silver color does look like it would make a gorgeous base. purple and silver look beautiful on you, btw. :) as for the lipgloss, i can imagine it would look lovely on you. :) sorry to hear that it smells though. i just got revlon's creme gloss (luckily for half the original price) and it tastes AWFUL. it still is a bit better than that clinique superbalm that i threw out. that smelled and tasted like FEET. ewww... hahaha...

oh yeah... i should've gotten the seahorse one in the to the beach collection. that sold out right away too. now i'm wondering why i didn't get it. oh, well... hehehe... oh, yes. i will do swatches too. i'm actually excited to do them because they're just so nice and summery. i did a look yesterday, but i didn't have time to take a pic of myself.

ah. the number i have of the origins powder is cloud 08. that and my foundations are usually the things i can easily finish since i frequently use them for work. it's the eyeshadows and lippies that are hard. some e/s i have are still from 2005. i hope that does not make me gross. lol.

yup, it's always nice to live where family is. it does get kinda lonely when you're living in another city and you get to see family once in a while. my early college days were like that. what's hard is when you get sick and you're far from home. it kinda scared me when that happened. then again, a visit to SD for you would be nice. :)

ps: i'll get to your email very soon. take care. :)

wow. you're really good with your mascaras. even though you have a lot, at least you don't open them up all at the same time. that's what i do. i go crazy and try whatever i can. lately though, everything else is pretty much untouched except for the lashblasts. as for the lipstain, the color payoff is nice. the staying power is not too great though. it kinda rubs off, which it's not supposed to. although thanks for telling me about the clearance on them at CVS. i'll still buy them. hehehe... :D

oh, the creme gloss from revlon is a tall and skinny tube. it almost looks as skinny as a pencil. i wanted their other lipgloss (the ones that look like chanel containers), but they don't have the colors i want. there's a lavender one and light coral one from some limited edition thingy. maybe walmart has them.

oh yeah, blush will take a long time. they do come in bigger containers. that'll last ages. speaking of that, wow, you still have eyeshadow from 2000? i guess they really do have a long shelf life. oh, i can't seem to part with my stuff either. like those mascaras i used to have. i wanted to cry while throwing a whole bunch out.

wow. fiesta island park? i should look that up. i wonder where it is in SD. i know it's quite a long way from LA, but maybe there might be some jobs here for you. :) an ex of mine had a roomate that works here and went back to LA on weekends, but i can imagine that must've been hard on him. especially considering he has to leave his wife and kids behind.

fiesta island park would be a nice place to visit. thanks to the guy you talked to for mentioning that. in case ben comes to visit, i'll suggest it. :D

Thanks for the review! I've heard they crease really quick but looks like they're not too bad. The concept is a good idea.

Jannie said...

yeah, that's the last time i'll be getting a CG lipstain. because the color is pretty, i'll just keep the one i have. i could use more lip colors after all. with mascara, i'll try to be good like you. i'll just open them if the colors are different. plus, i think i'm better off sticking with lashblast. no more dept. store mascara for me. unless it's another color. i haven't really found other colored mascaras in drugstores. i know walmart has their hard candy ones, but i did not like the silver one i bought at all. i'm still keeping it though. i dunno what i'll use it for.

that must've been fun talking to that guy in the park about makeup. :D i have a friend at work who's just as makeup addicted as we are. we talk about makeup while we're folding clothes. we can go on for hours talking about our lemmings and all the different eyeshadows urban decay has. lol. people must think we're speaking a whole other language with that makeup talk. i enjoy it though. :)

ahhh. thank you for remembering the names of those revlon lipglosses. :D i want lavender sky so bad. also coral reef. coral has been my latest favorite color. hahaha... it's so pretty. :D lavender sky is a very unique lipgloss color, so i MUST have that. i need to look into prestige lipsticks too. they actually have purple and lavender shades. i don't have any of them.

lol. i guess even though we're not supposed to have eyeshadows for that long, it can probably still be around for sentimental value. keep them around and not use them. hehe... we can probably stare at them and think of fond memories. gosh. how cheesy am i! LOL.

yup. i guess you're right. it's always better to work near home. finding a place to live elsewhere is quite a hassle. plus, it would be tiring to commute every weekend on the way home from SD to LA. but a visit is nice in the future. :D

haha... i haven't gotten around much here in SD. north county is quite far from la jolla and downtown. i only get to visit those places every once in a while. there are still a lot of places i have yet to visit like fiesta island park. :D

i know in LA there are a lot of places to see. my boyfriend said it's definitely less quiet over there. hehe... i wish i could live in a big city. i kinda like sleeping through noise at night as long as they're not scary or obnoxious kinds. hehe...

Nice review. I agree that Covergirl doesn't really perform well and that there are definitely much better drugstore brands. Drew does look really pretty with that makeup on! but I'm sorry it the products didn't work out for you =(

In response to your question on my blog, the YSL Rouge Volupte lipsticks all have SPF 10. But unlike many lipsticks I've tried with SPF, it's creamy and not as drying.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

yay! i'm excited to read about your next post. i love long posts too, so i'm so looking forward to reading it. :) that's cool how you make your posts in advance. at least you have some time to edit it. plus, it's always nice to make posts while the ideas are fresh. :)

so far, that's the only hard candy mascara i've tried. that'll be the only one i'll ever try. hahaha... i don't know if the rest suck, but i'm content without having to try them. lol. about the heads up, you are very welcome. :) i think i've heard other complaints about hard candy mascara too. kinda like the formula being a little too wet.

i usually use primer to make colored mascaras show on me. especially colors like eggplant or plum. they almost match the color of my lashes, so i prime them with white primer to make them somewhat pop. now i miss my teal mascara from mac. even without primer, that still showed. i tried the bad gal blue one without primer. one of my friends actually noticed the blue color, so that one showed up okay. i'm sure it'll show up on you after two coats, maybe.

wow. the dog park must be a good place to meet other people too. i envy that guy you met for having such a cool job. working as a makeup artist for MAC must be a lot of fun and i am guessing he most likely has a pro card. :D i noticed at the counters (and maybe at the actual store) that it can get crazy from time to time with all these people crowding around.

corals are so pretty. it's nice how it's a universal color. it pretty much suits any skin tone. :) i wonder where they carry the revlon summer collection at. i looked at CVS, not there. it's also not at walgreens either. maybe walmart or target are my best bets, hopefully.

oooh yeah. i should bug my boyfriend to take me to LA. hehehe... especially during the time of IMATS. lol. even if it's not IMATS though, it would always be fun to meet up. :D i miss visiting LA.

Pity you didn't like them.. I haven't used anything from CG in the longest time.. since we don't get them where I am..

KL = Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia =)

oh no, problems with your next post? i hope you got that resolved or will resolve it. is there a limit on the length of post or something? if there is, thanks for the heads-up about it. you know me, i love to ramble. hehehe...

some lady at the MAC counter gave me the tip about putting primer before applying colored mascara. the white makes the color stand out. especially if the colors are really dark.

wow. lucky for the MAC people they get big discounts on their stuff. heard about the freebies too. other than cosmetics, they get goodies too like bling. the my regular MUA there has this necklace that says MAC on it. i dunno if it's actually diamonds or rhinestones. it's pretty though and i wish to have something like it. hehehe... she said she got it for free.

dang. at least your CVS has the glosses. mine doesn't. or probably not yet. i really hope to see them soon. i'm trying my best not to spend anything in the mall, so that i can buy those glosses. hehe...

oh, ben's location in LA is in the san fernando valley. tarzana to be exact. i can imagine it's very far from where i live. hehe... without traffic, it takes him two hours to get here. with traffic, i guess it takes him forever. lol.

Hey Ahleessa!

I just became a BzzAgent some times ago, too!

I'm not sure about the Smoky Shadowblast. It sure looks sheer -_-

The gloss looks great, except that I hate when you can feel the glitters on your lips! My lips are super sensitive so I guess it's not for me.

I received the same package too! Girl-great minds think alike-heehee! I picked the same eyeshadow shade but they send me an orange gloss instead of the pink one. I havent tried the gloss yet but I hate the eyeshadow. Its like impossible to apply and blend. I feel like it doesnt dry and just stays greasy. I would be so peeved if I actually spent 9 bucks on it. I love that you used the eyeshadow stick as a base for another eyeshadow! You seriously have some major skills girl!
