Since L'Oreal came out with their Caresse Aqua Lip Lacquer (a dupe of YSL Glossy Stain), I thought it's the perfect time to review YSL Glossy Stain. I bought my YSL Glossy Stain end of March 2012 Sephora haul.

Thoughts: I cannot remember the reason why I bought this in March of 2012. I remember talking with my makeup buddy about this. She might be the one who influenced me, but I cannot guarantee on that.

When it comes to packaging, I don't find it most attractive.
It's just a simple black tube with gold top with their logo, YSL.
Here's the back of the packaging. It's the same as the front except no YSL logo.

The packaging is very sturdy. I cannot see it break or get any scratches. Fingerprints, on the other hand, I see it all the time. You can just clean it with a tissue paper or cloth of any type.
One thing I like is that there's a clear part you can see the color of the stain. If you own more than one, then you can distinguish them apart.

When it comes to the scent, it's very light and reminds me of fruity perfume. You only smell it the first couple of minutes while applying the product. After couple of minutes, you cannot smell it.
Here's the brush.
Here's a swatch of the color.
Here's how the Glossy Stain looks on me.

Overall opinion... Just like L'Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lip Lacquer, as soon as you apply it on your lips it's cold. Not the plumping type of cooling sensation but it's just cold. It might be more noticeable with this cold weather we're having in California. It only lasts for couple of minutes while the product is wet. Once it's dries, the cold sensation is gone. One thing I noticed about this product is that there's no sticky residue at  all. I was expecting it to be sticky while wet but it wasn't. It's also very shiny if you apply a lot. If you apply a little, it's not that shiny/glossy. It's long lasting but I noticed when I ate something, the shininess/glossiness disappeared a bit and the color. At the end, I'm happy with this product but not excited. I feel that it's expensive for the quality.

Pros:
* Strong, sturdy packaging that will not break or get scratches.
* See through packaging so you can see the color of the product.
* Sponge-like brush.
* Fruity perfume scent.
* Scent isn't strong; lasts a minute or two.
* Cooling sensation.
* No stickiness even when it's wet.
* Long lasting.
* Shininess/glossiness lasts a long time.

Cons:
* Expensive.
* Easily see fingerprints on the packaging.

Would repurchase: Maybe.
Rating:  4/5 Tobey's Paws

Great review and comparison. I like that beautysets page you used ^_^

That seems like a very pretty shade on you and love that its so shiny! I am not a fan of sticky glosses so this sounds like something I would use. I agree however that it's probably too pricey compared to $7.99!! I wonder what gives it the cooling sensation if its not for plumping?

It's my first time using BeautySets and let me tell you it wasn't easy... lol~ It actually took me 2 nights. They have already set page and you just fill it in. That's pretty easy or at least I think so. Unfortunately, they didn't have a comparison type of page. I had to recreate the whole thing myself from fresh. If anyone uses this, I hope I get credit... lol~ :X I also was worried it wouldn't look good. I hope people like it and thought it looked like a page from a beauty magazine... hehe~ :X

I have no idea why it has a cooling sensation. I just find it odd myself. I wonder if all stain products have a cooling sensation? I should check out my other stain products I have. Maybe I just never noticed before. :/

Thank you! Not too sure if you're talking about the product itself or the comparison to L'Oreal... hehe~

I love the YSL glossy stains. Thanks for the comparison, I will look into Loreal and save some money.

You're welcome! I cannot wait to hear what you have to say about the L'Oreal one. :)

Both! I was complimenting on the last part on how you did the comparison on both items. :)
