Earth Day - Aveeno

This coming Friday is Earth Day, April 22nd. Is anyone doing anything special to protect/save the earth? To be honest, I didn't think much of it until I got something in the mail today.
I got a wonderful package from Aveeno since I'm an ambassador for Aveeno. They sent me a recyclable bag and seeds to plant. Please check out their Facebook page. They have a lot of great information. Before I go into myself and how I will change a bit to save/protect the earth, I would like to talk a little more about Aveeno.

Aveeno launch Aveeno Be An Active Natural program in Times Square, NY on April 7-8.
They planted hundreds of trees to "encourages people to make small changes in their daily lives that can add up to a positive impact on the environment." You can check out more information about this event, as well as, pictures. You can also "Like" their Facebook page and take the pledge, 50 recyclebank points, Be An Active Natural on the side profile.

One of the newsletter they sent with the package had interesting facts. It list interested facts about different types of trees. I will mention some here.

Oak Tree: I'm an Oak and I can take in 260 pounds of CO2 a year. I turn it into clean oxygen for you to breathe. By car-pooling to work one day a week, you can save me from having to do so much work, and reduce your CO2 emissions by 8 percent. Thanks to Aveeno, MillionTreesNYC will find a home for me in one of the New York City's five boroughs to help purify the air near a local school, day-care or library this spring.

Did you know that the temperatures of urban areas are 2-10 degrees warmer than surrounding areas due to the prevalence of concrete, asphalt, tall buildings and the absence of trees? The goal of many urban tree plantings is to reduce the urban heat island effect. Trees in New York City remove more than 1800 metric tons of air pollution annually. Thanks to Aveen and MillionTreesNYC, I will be working to help cool the air near a local school, day-care or library this spring.

Blue Spruce: I'm a Blue Spruce, more commonly known as a Christmas tree. I can grow to be 115 feet and live to be 800 years old when left in my roots. Give your Christmas tree a second life by purchasing a live tree that can be replanted after the ornaments come down. Plant it in the backyard, or, if you don't have the room donate it to a local nursery.

Southernwood (silvermound): I am Silvermound, a variety of a Southernwood tree. The Aveeno Active Naturals ingredients Southernwood, is a natural combination of saccharides and polyphenols, which help attract and bind water to the skin while also providing antioxidant activity. You can find it in the new Aveeno Smart Essentials facial products designed to transform the look with Ylang-Ylang and Chamomile to calm and relax your senses while leaving your skin feeling soft, smooth and refreshed.

There's more but doesn't it make you think how important trees are!?!? I never thought about donating/replanting Christmas trees after the season.
I will definitely plant these seeds. I am not too sure what kind of seeds these are. I guess time will tell. ;) It might not be a big deal, but it's a start of helping the planet.

How are you guys doing to help the planet?

Disclaimer: The products mentioned in this post are given to me because I'm an ambassador. I am not getting paid to advertise any products. This post is written with my honest opinion.

Wow, that is crazy. =( Makes me wonder too. Most drinks don't require one so that would make sense. On a lighter note, I hope you are having a nice Easter. =)
