This past weekend, Saturday May 24, 2014, I had the experience of getting my hair colored at Nelson j Salon.
It wasn't by any stylist, but the celebrity stylist Nelson Chan.
'Nelson Chan is a Beverly Hills hair stylist to the stars. Nelson's spectacular results are in such high demand that he's frequently summoned to celebrity homes and movie sets. Visit our "as featured on" section to read what popular media sources say about Nelson Chan. His hair salon, Nelson j, is a leading Los Angeles hair salon offering superior hair, beauty, and massage services, as well as natural hair care products that provide the best results for both you and the environment. Nelson Chan has been continuously voted "Best Hair Colorist" by Allure and Instyle magazine. Nelson j Salon has also been voted the best Los Angeles hair salon for Hair Straightening and Hair Extensions on CitySearch.com.'

I took this from the website. They said it better than I ever could!
When you walk into the salon, the front desk is on the left. On the right, there's a section of  hair stylists either cutting hair, styling, and so on. I just assumed that was it. Let me tell you, it's a lot bigger than I expected. Unfortunately, I did not take pictures of the different sections. I wanted to but it got crowded. I didn't want to be in the way of stylists and customers while they're moving around from getting their hair washed, dried, and so on. I only took this picture from where I was seated most of the time I was there. This section of the area is where the makeup artist does her work. While I was there, I got to see her do her work on two customers. I believe one was for prom and she did an amazing job! If you look on the bottom left, there's a table. That's the waiting room. They had magazines and a TV set up for people while waiting.

Now for my experience...
Before I was set up to meet Nelson Chan, I went to the restroom and took a picture of my before hair. If you can tell, it's actually lighter on top and darker on the bottom. That's my bad experience of dying at home. After taking pictures of my before hair, I was seated and waiting for Nelson Chan. Let me tell you the people who work here are extremely nice! I had three different people ask me if I wanted water, coffee, or tea. I said no to the first two and then I took a cup of water. I didn't have to wait long until Nelson Chan came. He asked what I can help you with. My original plan was to color and highlight my hair. I decided I didn't want to get highlights and showed him a girl from a K-pop video. He was quick and knew what to do with my hair.
This is the final result after 4 hours of sitting in the salon. He pre-lightened my dark hair and used many, I mean many, tones of brown.
Here's a better picture of my hair color. It's darker on top and it gets lighter as you go down. That's how a real hair color should look like. It'll look natural if I wasn't Asian. Not only did he color my hair, he even blow dried it and styled it into a wave. It came out so pretty! The best part, in my opinion, they used Aveda products. If you don't know Aveda, they're a natural brand and much better for the hair. The last time I went blonde, my hair was damage from the bleach and color. I love how healthy my hair looks.
Not only did I get my hair colored, I got few of Nelson j hair products to try and review. I actually received this a month before getting my hair colored. To prepare for the hair coloring, I've been using this products as well as now. I'm trying to prevent the color from fading. Nelson recommended I shampoo only on the scalp area and condition on the rest. I've been deep conditioning with the Argan Oil Moisture Healing Mask to prevent my hair from drying. I will review these products in a future posts.

If you want to visit Nelson j Salon, here's the address.
350 N. Bedford Drive

I highly recommend experiencing once. You can tell the difference between him and other stylists. He knows what he's talking about. Now I can see why so many celebrities (Heather Gram, Lady Gaga, Paula Abdul, etc...) want him to color their hair!
