National Healthy Skin Month Derm Tips

Disclaimer: Press Release

"In celebration of National Healthy Skin Month (November), dermatologist Dr. Jeanine Downie is revealing her top five tips to keep your skin healthy this month and all winter long!"

Before I talk about the tips, let me tell you about Dr. Jeanine Downie. "Dr. Jeanine Downie, M.D., is a board certified by the American Board of Dermatology and holds medical licenses in the states of New Jersey, New York and California. She is the director of her own practice, image Dermatology P.C. in Montclair, N.J. and has extensive training and experience in both adult and pediatric dermatology."

Now for the five tips...

"1. The best way to keep your skin hydrated is to moisturize daily. This time of year, I love the AVEENO® Skin Relief 24HR Moisturizing Lotion, which keeps my skin super hydrated, so it is not dry and flaky.
2. Opt for hydrating body washes and in shower cleansers! I use an unscented, hydrating body wash. I then get out of the shower and towel dry before I moisturize.

3. Pay attention to hands, feet, elbows and knees, which frequently can become dry, cracked or irritated. Keep them covered with protective clothing and look for a healing ointment, with ingredients like glycerin, like AVEENO® Skin Relief Healing Ointment, to help soothe irritated skin.
4. Healthy skin is protected skin. Everyone should wear sunscreen every day, no matter the time of the year! I recommend an SPF 30 or above for the face and body. Reapplication is also very important. The incidence of skin cancer is rising in all ethnicities - I cannot stress the importance of sunscreen enough.

5. Everyone should visit have a full body skin cancer screening once a year by a board certified dermatologist. If you have an increased risk or family history of skin cancer, you may need them more frequently.

i agree. moisturizing prevents minor scratches and cuts as well as from those horrible winter statics for me.
i don't have dry skin so sometimes just using the moisturizing body wash works for me sometimes. :)

Oh mi gosh, I'm so jealous that moisturizing body wash works for you! I need a creamy body moisturizer or else I'll flake all over. :(
